Drinks After Dark

November 28th, 2008

2008 Holiday Gift Guide

Have yourself, and your friends, a merry little Christmas this year, and make everyone on your list smile with the perfect gift! These are the Drinks After Dark top picks for the silly season. If these don’t work for your gift-giving needs, give yourself something nice this season and put it under the tree for yourself!

Agavero Tequila Holiday Gift Pack - $29.99

Agavero, the ultra smooth 100% blue agave tequila, is hand blended with Damiana, a legendary flower known for centuries as a potent aphrodisiac.

The holiday gift pack includes a 750 ml bottle of Agavero and one signature hand crafted, and hand painted 12 oz cocktail glass by artist Debbie Arbizzani.  Each stunning glass mimics the beautiful fields of the Damiana flower and blue agave plants from which Agavero is made.

Sylvania LED bottle stoppers and Coasters (4 for $19.99)

These are pretty cool. The coasters change color when you set a drink on them! Initially, they don’t look like much, but the weight of the glass is enough to activate the switch on the bottom, which makes the coasters cycle through a rainbow of colours, throwing light up through the textured surface and into your drink. The one thing we did find is that in order to make sure the coaster light up consistently, the little rubber battery covers need to come off.  The LED bottle stoppers are pretty cool too, and come in a white LED and an RGB colour changing LED. Definitely fun stocking stuffers!

Maestro Dobel Diamond Tequila - $74.99

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, right? This year, how about looking at a different kind of diamond? Maestro Dobel, the world’s first ever diamond tequila, is a luxurious silver tequila with the complexity of an aged spirit.  This exceptional blend of Reposado, Anejo and Extra Anejo tequilas can be judged, like a diamond, by four C’s: Clarity, Complexity, Crispness and Craftsmanship.  It’s smoother, i find, than many silver tequilas, and is definitely a nice sipping tequila.

Cookies and Cocktails - $32.09 (paperback) or $9.99 (download)

Lulu is a site that allows users to create their own cookbooks with professional quality at prices less than $20.  This promises to be the most quirky, creative and affordable way to say Happy Holidays to their favorite ‘cocktail nerd’. For example, “Cookies and Cocktails” is an excellent example of four friends who set out to create new holiday memories though Lulu.com.  Each friend submitted their favorite recipes—from Hot Buttered Rum and Candy Cane Martini to Sugared Pecans and Christmas Brittle—to capture the magic that takes place in their kitchens every holiday season.  Buy Cookies & Cocktails or create your own cookbook!

SpinWine - $39.95

Utilizing a patented Danish process, SpinWine decanting pourer circulates wine through a double helix into your glass, accelerating the fusion of natural ingredients, releasing all of the flavors and complexities the wine maker crafted.

Faster than a traditional decanter, easier than a going through the double decanting process, SpinWine makes a great stocking stuffer.

Aarne Cocktail Set - various prices

Following the tradition of Finnish glass makers (which I can personally vouch for - Finnish glass is phenomenal), this Italia Aarne cocktail set is luxury at an affordable price. Göran Hongell, glass designer and decorative artist, followed the blown glassware set the trend for glass design during the 1950s.  Timeless and beautiful, the Aarne comes in a cocktail glass, (set of two $44) beer glass (set of two $60) highball glasses (set of two, $56) and pitcher, ($128) allowing you to mix and match to create the perfect set for you.

Four-piece Personalized Wine Set - $39.99

An impressive set for the wine-lover on your gift list. Includes 2 bottle stoppers, a corkscrew, thermometer, and an index of recommended temperatures for a variety of wines. A practical and unique gift that pleases even the most discriminating recipients. Presented in an understated wooden box, with an engravable brass plate.
