Bottle Shock - a.k.a. I’ve got plans on August 8th
Documenting 1976’s “Judgement of Paris”, Bottle Shock is positioned pretty well to be for me what The Dark Night will be for my husband, Adam when it comes out. In a word: perfection.
Starring Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Eliza Dushku and Freddy Rodriguez, Bottle Shock is about the blind taste testing that pitted France’s finest against California’s then unknown treasures. In the end the little known Chateau Montelena emerges victorious, shocking the world and establishing that California is more than just another player in the world of wine.
I’ve heard some mixed reviews, but isn’t that the case with most movies? Especially indie underdogs films? To be sure, there will likely be some who see this as a watered down version of history, others just like to hate on films like Sideways and Juno (especially when the hype really peaks) and probably still others who for some strange reason just don’t care that much about wine in the
first place…but my hopes are up, I’m reading the positive reviews as gospel and absolutely looking forward to it.
Interestingly enough, this is not the only film adaptation of this famous story…and even more entertaining is the quibbling about artistic merit and quality going on between either camp. Judging simply from one article last year in The San Francisco Chronicle, the reactions to each others films in to the date are combative on both sides - to say the least.
Learn more about The Judgement of Paris and make sure to catch the film trailer on Bottle Shock’s official website. Bottle Shock will be released in limited theatres on August 8th.
