Cornucopia: Day 1

I’m sitting in my gorgeous room at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, on the absolutely comfortable, completely squishy bed, drying off from a serious downpour! It didn’t ever cross my mind that I would have to bring an umbrella to Whistler, the land of skiing and snowboarding!

Virtual Cocktail Chatter

Each Thursday, fancy mixologists, cocktail geeks and bartenders gather in a chat room and geek out over cocktails. They create new recipes, try and out-do one another and pretty much drink all night. All in all, it’s a pretty fantastic time.
I know this is a day late, but Kaiser Penguin had the wrap up from […]

Cocktails for a Cause

Today is Blog Action Day, where more than 12,000 bloggers around the world band together for one cause, and this year, blog action day is shining a spotlight on poverty.

While alcoholism affects many who live in poverty, there are equally as many of us who can not only have a drink or two and stop, […]

Honey-inspired cocktails

Life got a little sweeter for the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver recently. More than 300 lbs of honey was harvested from the hotel’s beehives near the end of August. The Fairmont has it’s own herb garden on the 3rd floor where many of the herbs and vegetables are grown for the restaurant.

In early June, […]

Gibson’s Finest Canadian Whiskey Iron Bar Competition

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of accompanying Rebecca to the Iron Bar Competition for Gibson’s Finest Canadian Whiskey. The Vancouver event featured four of the city’s best mixologists - the four known for creating unique, and extremely original cocktails. We had Justin Tisdall from Boneta, Frank Palter from Fairmont Waterfront, Ryan Cheverie from Hamilton Street […]

Brew 2.0

What feels like ages ago now, Molson put on a lovely event, just for bloggers. I haven’t talked about it primarily because Drinks After Dark covered the event in Toronto, and also, several other bloggers covered the whole event. There’s about a million pictures available as well, partly because Raul and Ianiv were there. Shutterbugs, […]

A sucker for a good gala

I’m always a sucker for a gala, so when Open Road Audi invited me to preview their 2009 cars last Thursday via a wine tasting, I was in.
What I wasn’t expecting was the full-on Hollywood star treatment that I and the other 500+ guests received: 14 different courses of a tasing meal with wines to […]

VinoCamp 2008 Wrap Up, In Pictures

Yesterday, the first (annual, we hope) VinoCamp Vancouver. I covered several of the sessions, found a Riesling I actually really enjoy (which is unusual for me), and became a hardcore Riedel glass convert.
Here’s some of the great shots from participants yesterday.
